Sugar: The Bitter Truth

by Kirk Kinder on February 8, 2012

Very interesting video about the effects of sugar or fructose. I know this isn’t a financial topic, but what good is your money if you don’t have your health. Money ultimately buys happiness, and good health is a critical ingredient in happiness. Maybe the most important ingredient. It is a long video, but the cliff notes are: fructose (sugar) is processed by the liver just like toxins such as alcohol, ethanol, etc. The liver processes these items as fat, which makes us obese and clogs our arteries. High fructose corn syrup is in just about every processed food you eat or drink cause it is cheap and makes you crave more food. Even orange juice is bad as it is pure fructose. Whole fruit isn’t bad as you have the fiber to offset the fructose and there are other trace elements of minerals present. So fiber is a good thing and sorely lacking in our diets.

Bottom line: get off sugar. Eat foods found naturally on the earth and not processed. You will see massive changes in your life.

Yes, that's absolutely correct. One of the things that I never realized before I got into this was that abs don't come from crunches; they come from diet. One of my gym buddies always says, "We all have a six pack, it's just hiding under a layer of fat. And the only way to get rid of that fat is to eat right."

If you interested, you should check out LeanGains: http://www.leangains.com/2010/...

It's a great resource backed up by multiple scientific studies. One of his most popular articles actually debunks several myths that many of us still hold onto: http://www.leangains.com/2010/...

One other thing...regardless of what you do, keep track of it. Whether it's weightlifting, cardio, or nutrition, keep a log of the progress you are making. Better yet, take pictures of yourself along the way. You'll be amazed at how much your body changes and it's great motivation to keep going!

  • JT,

Awesome...glad to hear you are in fantastic shape. I was talking to a 60 year old man who is jacked, and he says that 80% of our fitness results comes from a knife and fork, not weights. That is why diet is so important.

Good video. I made a resolution last year to get in shape. I joined a gym (a real gym not some Planet Fitness nonsense) and started lifting weights. I used the Starting Strength program as a guide.

Since then I've cleaned up my diet and I'm in the best shape of my life. I've gained a substantial amount of muscle and can say proudly that I'm not longer little girl weak. Just last week I set a PR on squats at 265 lbs for 5 reps. And my deadlifts are at 335 lbs for 5. All this at a bodyweight of 160!

I highly recommend the program or it's cousin, StrongLifts.
